오늘 알아볼 주얼러는 조세핀 하트웰 쇼입니다.
제가 좋아하는 예술공예운동(Arts & Crafts moverment) 시대에 있었던 주얼러입니다.
생몰연도는 1865년부터 1941년입니다.
조세핀 하트웰은 메사추세츠 주립 일반 학교와, 예술학교였던 프랫 학원(Pratt Institute)를 다녔습니다.
같은 공예 예술가 동료였던 프레데릭 A. 쇼와 결혼하여 조세핀 하트웰 쇼가 되었습니다.
1905년에 보스턴 예술 공예 협회 회원이 되었고, 1906년즈음 부터 명성을 얻기 시작했습니다.
1908년에는 시카고 예술 협회에서 11번이나 전시를 했습니다.
1910년에는 보스톤의 예술 공예 협회에서 금속공예 부문의 장인으로 선발되었습니다.
1913년에는 보스턴 박물관에서 작품을 구입해갔는데, 이는 상당히 드문 일이었습니다.
지금도 명성 있는 박물관에서 현대 공예 작가의 작품을 구입하는 일은 자주 있는 게 아닙니다.
1911년, 1912년, 1918년에는 시카고를 비롯해 여러 곳에서 상을 탔습니다.
에드워드 오크스(Edward Oakes)를 가르친 선생이었다고 하네요.
에드워드 오크스는 1891년 생이고 메사추세츠 출신이니까 딱 맞습니다!

지역 공립 학교에서 회화, 즉 그림을 가르쳤는데 나중에는 로드 아일랜드를 비롯한 다른 곳에서도 수업했습니다.
1914년에는 남편의 사망으로 과부가 되면서 보스턴을 떠났습니다.
1920년 대에는 미국 식민지 시대부터 있던 역사 깊은 자신의 저택에서 여름에는 동네 카페 사장과 함께 찻집 겸 주얼리 상점을 운영하고, 겨울에는 장신구를 만드는 생활을 했습니다.
아래는 그런 저택의 상점 공간 풍경입니다.
큰 정원이 딸린 집에서 자유롭게 만들고...이런 생활 좋네요...
1930년에 보스턴 예술 공예 전시회에서 작품을 전시하고 상을 탔습니다.
작품은 현재 보스턴 박물관이 소장하고 있습니다.
1939년에 대공황이 몰아닥치자, 조핀 하트웰 쇼는 협회에서 사임했습니다.
그 뒤로는 별다른 정보가 없네요.
아마도 살던 저택에서 이렇게 매우 "타샤 튜더" 같은 생활을 하지 않았을까 합니다.
